Saturday 09 February is National Libraries Day, an occasion to celebrate the work done by school, college, university, workplace and public libraries in the UK. Unfortunately BGS Library will be closed on the day itself, but there are plenty of free events all over Bristol to get stuck into.
- All 28 of the city’s council-run libraries, Saturday 9th February 11:00, Free: Simultaneous story-time featuring ‘Something Beginning with Blue’ by Nick Sharratt and Sally Symes. This will be the first time Bristol’s libraries come together for an event of this nature, and children are invited to join the fun at no cost.
- Bristol Central Library, Saturday 9th February 11:00, Free: Local writers Sara-Jane Arbury and Joff Winterheart will be taking part in a unique one off collaboration to bring fiction to life through words and pictures. In celebration of the event, the Central Library will enter each visitor who takes out more than three items into a prize-draw to win a Kobo e-book reader.
- Emerson’s Green Public Library, Thursday 7th February 19:30, Free: Find out more about e-books, e-readers and e-publishing. Local authors Alis Bacon, Shirley Wright & Avis Randall will read from their own recently published e-books.
- Staple Hill Library. Wednesday 13th February 19:00, £2.60: Hear Lesley Pearse, one of the UK’s best-loved authors of women’s fiction talk about her work and her extraordinary life in books.
