Year 7 Catchpoles Library Activities!

Over the last six Monday afternoons the Library has had the pleasure of year 7 Catchpoles’ company for various activities, discussions and quizzes!

They are now fully trained in the art of book finding, scrutinising and, most importantly, enjoying! To show off their library ninja skills the sessions culminated in presentations and a quiz crescendo complete with singing and dancing!

The class gave some thoughtful and smart presentations on the subjects of:

  • Books vs E-books
  • How we choose what to read next
  • The Library of Congress
  • The British Library
  • Penguin Publishing
  • Books vs Films
  • Book Covers and Illustrations
  • The Dewey Decimal System
  • The Children’s Laureate and...
  • Favourite Authors and/or Books.

The winners were Henry and Max who gave a confident and clear presentation on their favourite authors and books with such great explanations as to why they enjoyed them that we all went away wanting to read them ourselves!

Ashvika and Fiona used excellent team work to give a detailed talk on the Library of Congress, including some lovely images and some impressive statistics.

And finally, we liked Ella and Mithusa’s well practised discussion on how we choose what to read next which demonstrated how we can all use the Dewey Decimal System to find out what we are interested in and where to find it.

These top three pairs were awarded a brand new copy each of their choice of the following (highly recommended) books:

You can also find copies of all these great books in the Library!

We celebrated on the last week with a quiz and Catchpoles certainly let their hair down! The 'guess the film from the music round' particularly got them out of their seats with the ultimate winning team receiving a box of Maltesers each, and they certainly did not hold back their satisfaction! The quiz covered all kinds of BGS facts, a picture round to guess the book characters and a devilish general knowledge round that tested their trivia.

Thanks and well done, Catchpoles, we hope you enjoyed it as much as we did!
