The fourth group of students to embark on their Library Activity this year were the
Year 7 pupils of Edwards’ house. For the first session we always begin with a
group discussion about our favourite books and authors and why we like them so much. It
very quickly became apparent that were many avid readers in the group and the discussion
lasted over an hour! There were even couple of Stephen King fans which made Mrs Osafo very happy indeed (for those of you that don’t
know, Stephen King is Mrs Osafo’s favourite
author).
During the second session, we took the students up to the Great Hall to undertake Mrs Bradley’s not- so-easy Great Hall Quiz (it is so difficult that Miss Kleiman had to ask for help the first time she did it)! Year 7 Edwards’ rose to the challenge, albeit with a few clues from the Library staff and Mr Edwards.

The following week saw the group take on the infamous Dewey Treasure Hunt, a fun test of their library skills, group work and lateral-thinking. These Year 7s certainly enjoyed their one and only chance to run around the library, with the groups all working really well together to come up with some great ideas.
The final week saw each student
give a presentation to the group on a topic related to things we had discussed in the previous sessions. We were
particularly impressed with the student's use of colour and imagery in their presentations, as
well as the fact that nearly everyone took on board the advice about using
minimal text on their slides.
After
much deliberation we decided on our 3 winners. In first place came Sarah, delivering an excellent and original presentation on Book Covers
and Illustrations. It flowed brilliantly and was full of
thought-provoking opinions.
Sam came second with his interesting and informative presentation on the ever-current debate of Books vs E-books. Even though Sam prefers books, he gave us a balanced view on both, alongside his own opinions.
Tom won third place with his fun and enlightening
presentation on The Dewey Decimal System.
Not only did Tom deliver a clear and concise presentation, he also included
ideas that we had discussed in previous sections along with new ideas he
discovered through research.
A special mention also went to Cara for her engaging presentation on Book Covers and Illustrations. She was awarded a commendation card for her efforts.
Thank you Edwards’ Year 7. It was a joy working with you!
