BGS Library Extends Magazine Selection

Whilst many in the publishing industry lament the slow demise of print periodicals, we in the BGS Library continue to champion the role of high-quality journals, magazines and newspapers in education and in life.  To that end, we are always on the lookout for periodicals that pack a punch.  This term we are pleased to announce that we have added 4 new titles to the collection:

The world’s most widely-read weekly news magazine, TIME covers international news, politics, global business and the arts, focusing on fact-based reportage and informed analysis/opinion on the issues of the day.  TIME’s journalists and photographers are on the front lines of all the top news stories, with one goal: To help our readers understand their complex and ever changing world.

A relatively new publication, Apps magazine is only two years old but has already become a must-read for technology enthusiasts.  In essence, Apps serves as a buyer’s guide to the best Apple and Android apps on the market, helping its readers navigate through the incredibly crowded marketplace to choose the best apps for their device(s).

SFX magazine is the leading magazine for everything science fiction, fantasy and horror.  Covering the whole gamut of popular culture, SFX includes articles on books, film, TV and games, from previews of the hits of tomorrow to interviews with the industry’s heavy-hitters.  And for comic/graphic novel enthusiasts, we have also subscribed to SFX’s bi-monthly sister-title, Comic Heroes.

First News is the award-winning weekly newspaper for young people (aged 7-14). Produced in a traditional, full colour, tabloid newspaper format, First News opens children's minds to the issues of today, informing, entertaining and stimulating them to take an active interest in the world around them.

See the Library Sharepoint page here for a complete list of our subscriptions.  And remember: the Library’s holdings are always expanding and evolving - if you have a suggestion for a periodical you would like to see stocked, don’t hesitate to speak to a member of the Library team.
