Gunawardana’s Investigate

This past month we in the Library have been playing host to Gunawardana’s Yr7s, the most recent batch through the BGSI activity.  This group were working against some adverse conditions, but they universally rose to the challenge and produced some excellent presentations.

What were these adverse conditions, I hear you ask?  Well Sports Day this week means that Gunawardana’s had one full session less with us, and in the week that groups were working on their presentations, roughly 1/3 of students were away at a cricket match.  Once again, sport proves to be the enemy of literature!!

This group had been more inquisitive than most, particularly in the BGS History session with our Archivist Anne Bradley, and this curious nature really shone in presentation week.  Most groups included an interactive element, whether a quiz or discussion, and responded to questions very well indeed.

Ultimately victorious were the group of Cory, Saty and Harry, who presented a well-researched and well-balanced discussion on the question of Ebooks vs Traditional Paper, which included not only an accomplished presentation, but a quiz and (for the first time in BGSI history) a scavenger hunt.  Claiming second place was Jodie and Amy’s presentation on Penguin Publishing.  Thoroughly researched and full of interesting material, this pair gained extra points for confident presentation style and adapting well to circumstances; their third member was not present in either the planning or delivery session and so they had to repeatedly tweak their work to accommodate and then make-up-for an absent member.  Pulling in a well-deserved third place was the group of Ethan, Henry and Sahaj, speaking about Book Reviews.  A particular standout element being Ethan’s exemplar book reviews (one very good, one intentionally poor).  Watch this space as we will be publishing Ethan’s work very soon!

That just about rounds-up the BGSI Activity for this school year, and we would like to thank each and every Yr7 student who has participated.  It’s been a blast getting to know you all and taking you on our guided tour of BGS and LibraryLand.  We look forward to seeing you all as Yr8s, and to starting with a new round of bright and enthusiastic Yr7s in September.  They have quite a bit to live up to!
