Congratulations to Maggot Moon, Carnegie Medal Winner 2013

Earlier today it was announced that Sally Gardner’s Maggot Moon has been selected as the winner of the Carnegie Medal 2013.

With this announcement, the efforts of our Year 8 Carnegie Shadowing Scheme students come to a close.  Most students managed to read every book on the shortlist and every one produced some excellent work in response, from in-class discussions and book reviews to alternative book cover designs.  See the fruit of their labours on our official Carnegie Shadowing Scheme website here.

Although the class were unable to predict the outcome (they recently voted for their favourite book and Palacio’s Wonder was chosen by no small margin!), we’re sure that all the students would join us in offering hearty congratulations to Sally Gardner and all the shortlisted authors.

BGS’ Carnegie Shadowing Scheme is a really special initiative, encouraging participants to engage with a broad range of the best contemporary children’s books out there.  Now in it’s 13th year, the 2012/13 class tackled the challenge head-on and, I feel safe to say, had a grand time doing so.
