BGS Welcomes Chris Skidmore: OB, MP & Tudor Historian

Our former students, Old Bristolians as they are affectionately known, are always welcome to visit their alma mater.  Oftentimes this will take the form of a wander around the grounds and a cup of tea with an old teacher or two.  Tomorrow we are happy to welcome OB and MP Chris Skidmore for something altogether more exciting: a public literary event focussing on his most recent work, Bosworth.

The author of two highly acclaimed books on Tudor History (Edward VI: The Lost King of England and Death and the Virgin), the Bristol University lecturer’s latest focuses not only on the fateful battle of Bosworth and its aftermath, but on the 60 year lead-up. It is a tale of brutal feuds and deadly civil wars, and the remarkable rise of the Tudor family from obscure Welsh gentry to the throne of England.  Drawing on eyewitness reports, newly discovered manuscripts and the latest archaeological evidence, Chris Skidmore vividly recreates this battle-scarred world in an epic saga of treachery and ruthlessness, death and deception and the birth of the Tudor dynasty.

A limited number of tickets for the event are still available and can be purchased on the door for £5 (no concessions).  Price includes light refreshments and live music, alongside a talk which promises to be most illuminating.

Thursday 06th June, 18:30 for a 19:00 start
