Simon Mayo is best known for his BBC Radio 2 Drivetime show. He began writing three years ago, when he decided to create something for his son Joe, an avid reader and science nut. His debut novel ITCH was a runaway bestseller and audiences have eagerly anticipated his follow-up, ITCH ROCKS, released in Feb 2013. We are delighted that he will be coming to BGS on Tuesday, 19 March to talk about his writing to the whole of Years 6 and 7.
In ITCH the reader was introduced to 14 year old Itchingham Lofte - known as Itch. He loves science, but his hobby of collecting all the elements in the periodic table gets him into some highly explosive situations. When he discovers a new and highly powerful element that’s never been seen before and his life is turned upside down. The element is so valuable that terrorists pursue him to get their hands on it, and he has to use all of his wits and scientific know-how to stop them.
ITCH ROCKS finds Itch back at school, but scientific discovery and the events of the previous book mean life has changed drastically. When his former teacher and rogue scientist comes after him with Nigerian terrorists there seems no way out. With explosions on a golf course, terrifying fights on the London underground, an enormous fire in a school there’s edge of the seat excitement as Itch, Jack and his sister Chloe struggle to put element 126 out of the hands of unscrupulous forces forever.
