In these unusual times it was Glenn’s House who first experienced the Year 7 library activity this year which for once was not in the library but in their tutor room which felt slightly strange! Having introduced ourselves we started with a discussion on Heroes and Villains - what makes a good hero or villain? There were loads of suggestions and participation in the quiz although Voldemort came up way too frequently! Reading for Pleasure and good Sleep Hygiene were then explored before we explained the new Click and Collect system to them as sadly they cannot come into the library at the moment.
In week 2 it was time for non-fiction to be discussed! We looked at Dewey and his library cataloguing system. We also discussed Ms Glenn's favourite food (potatoes!) and where a book on this food would be placed. Was it a book on the poetry of potatoes? Or maybe the history of the potatoes? Or even games involving potatoes? Having listened very intently to the presentation, Glenn's were divided into 3 teams of 3 couples (based on where they were sitting) and we played the Dewey Jeopardy Quiz. After some high playing stakes, Team 3 came out top and received their prizes. We think Ms Glenn had the most fun with different buzzers sounding for each team!
1st place - Callum spoke passionately about Stories for Boys who Dare. He even read a passage out from the book about his favourite person- Beethoven. He also told us what the next book in the series was.
2nd place - Bryony had to go first and set a very high bar. She gave us a good summary of the plot for Warrior Cats and talked about Points of View and who actually wrote the book!
3rd place - Lohith introduced us all to One Piece which is a Manga book. His favourite character was a savage humorous killer and he also took us through some strengths and weaknesses of the book.
4th place -
Leo went with his favourite reading material The Beano which his grandfather had introduced him to when he was
younger. Telling us about all the characters, he also read a story from the
copy he had brought with him.
5th place -
Maisie was very enthusiastic about her book The
Hunger Games which she summarised well and told us what she liked about it.
She also answered questions very well from the floor until she was interrupted
by Ms Glenn ringing her bell which she had been given to keep the presentations
down to 2 minutes!
In our final week we started by telling Glenn's all about the books that they could choose for prizes for the previous week. We then talked about the history of BGS and had lots of really interesting questions posed to us. We gave out prizes and then finished with an extremely competitive quiz on all things literature! Well done to Team 3 who just pipped Team 2 to win.
We have had a lovely time getting to know you all year 7 Glenn's and we look forward to you emailing us with requests for books to borrow and to eventually welcoming you into the library at some point in the future.
