Year 7 Library Activity - Niamir's House

Just before Christmas we had the pleasure of welcoming our second Year 7 House to the library activity on Monday afternoons. Niamir’s House proved to be articulate, full of ideas and very keen to join in especially in the quizzes! This is what we got up to…..

In our first week we had some excellent suggestions as to who should be in the top 5 list of ‘Heroes and Villains in literature’. There were plenty of innovative answers and names that we had not had before. When we moved onto suggestions for Reading for Pleasure and Sleep Hygiene, the Yellow House had plenty of advice and ideas for their fellow pupils and lots of books were taken out when they had chance to borrow a book for pleasure.

In week 2 there was an abundance of good listening skills for the non-fiction presentation which meant a high scoring round for some teams in ‘Dewy Jeopardy’. There was lots of running around for the ‘Dewy dash’ with Tara and Cara coming out top with 9 cards earned - one of the highest scores we have ever had.
Niamir’s spent week 3 enthusiastically preparing for their presentations which they then delivered in front of their peers during week 4. After lots of deliberation by the library staff, first place was given to Archie and Henry on ‘Book Covers and Illustrations’. Their presentation had a great script and very good visuals. They were very confident in their delivery and explained in great detail what made each cover good. Second place went to Tara and Cara on ‘The British library’. They had interesting pictures with lots of information and when questioned, knew what archive activism was! In third place was Harry, Seb and Alex on ‘Heroes in Literature’. Their presentation was divided up well between the three of them and they had a great list of the qualities that a hero needs as well as why these were important with lots of examples. Well done to all of you and we hope you enjoy the books you chose as prizes!

The last week was taken up initially with a very lively presentation on The History of BGS with lots of questions from all the pupils. We then went on to a General Knowledge Quiz which was very close but the final Film Themes round separated the teams with 'Six Girls with Six Packs' storming ahead to win. Well done Cara, Tara, Pru, Annabel, Ella & Scarlett!

It was a pleasure seeing you all Niamir’s and we hope you will come into the library often in the next few weeks and years.
