Reading
for pleasure was our topic of discussion at the start and the class certainly
had some good, bad and ugly habits to share. From reading at the dinner table
to reading upside down, what about those people who read as they walk along,
how do they do that!? The consensus was; reading: if you feel comfortable and you’re
doing it, that’s a good thing.
The
next week, we practically trashed the Library finding out how we find what
we want to read. From research skills to categorisation to shelving practices.
If they don’t know how a Library works now, they never will [not a verified
fact]! The two fastest researchers in the west walked off in to the sunset with
a cheeky prize for their efforts and believe me, they took this thing seriously
so we are expecting some stone cold scholars to come out of this activity.
Their
work paid off as the presentations were all in and completed on time, even the students
who had been preoccupied with other commitments, for which everyone in the class
received a positive behaviour point.
The
three winners stood out from the rest as being well-prepared, shared, timed,
paced and articulated. Ben and Thomas talked to us about ‘Genres in
Literature’covering 8 different genres for us and enthusiastically discussing the ins and outs of all of them with a great set of notes and a little bit of humour
thrown in for good measure. Well done guys! Emma and Suki shared a lovely
upbeat presentation on ‘How We Choose What to Read Next' including a fun quiz and most importantly great
references to the many Library resources that are available! Nice one, team! And
finally, Clodagh and Imtiyaz explored the world of ‘Unusual and Beautiful Libraries' demonstrating how an attractive PowerPoint that corresponds
pictures with words and script effectively can go a long way to capturing an
audience’s imagination. Good work!
In
our farewell week the class got to flex their trivia muscles with a history
lesson on all things BGS from its origins to the present day followed by a set
of fun quizzes to round it all off. This time we had a stand-off between teams:
‘Arena Warriors’, ‘Savage Cabbagez’, ‘Pom-Pom Champions’ and ‘People’ and with
dancing, singing and enthusiastic conferring the outcome was….the ‘Arena Warriors’ in first place with a hefty score of 24/32. Congratulations!
So,
thank you 7 Scott’s House you were a pleasure to Library with. See you back again
soon!
