The last Year 7 Activity group of this academic year has left
the Library building and although a short but sweet run of only four weeks it
ended on a high note with some lovely presentations.
Glenn’s was a pleasure to chat with about all things books
and libraries, not only attentive and well-mannered but full of bright ideas
about book covers, design and marketing, libraries, museums and galleries,
research skills and not to mention everyone’s favourite heroes, villains and
genres.
It meant that the competition was fierce during the
Non-Fiction Research Hunt and Dewey Jeopardy Quiz which turned the Library into
the inevitable frenzied, shouty, free-for-all and we loved it! Team ‘F.A.B’
streaked into the lead with 190 points and walked away with the prize leaving
the ‘Three Lions’, the ‘Pigs in Blazers’ and the ‘Yazoos’ behind.
But it was in the presentations that Glenn’s showed us just
how much they knew about finding new books, reading for pleasure and relaxation
and how inspiring books can be as well as the Libraries around the world that
hold them.
In first place was Fleur and Zoe with ‘Heroes in Literature’
who introduced a bit of drama into their delivery using a debate sequence to
discuss the world of literary heroes, showcasing the anti-heroes and female
characters that inspire them from their own reading experiences. A well
prepared and brilliantly delivered performance with lots of recommendations,
thank you!
Cooper and Rahul were second with their presentation on
‘Genres in Literature’. They structured their presentation really effectively
and talked us through their favourite genres of Science Fiction, Mystery,
Fantasy and Graphic Novels demonstrating some of the tropes of each genre with
a visually informative PowerPoint. Lots of really useful information here. Well
done, guys.
With a stunning photographic presentation we had Josh and
Ollie V in third place with ‘Unusual/Beautiful Libraries’ giving us a detailed
tour around their four favourite library designs from around the world. Very
clearly delivered, well shared and highly descriptive. Mrs O is now keen to
visit Stuttgart’s Stadtbibliothek herself!
We finished with an honourable mention and praise point for
the good effort that Caleb and Ollie D put into their presentation on ‘How We
Chose What to Read Next’ which offered a new approach to the task by reminding
us how important it is to be aware of certain biases in the reviews that we
read for recommendations!
Sadly, it is the end of term and thus an abrupt end to our
time with 7 Glenn’s but we want to thank all of you for being such engaged and
engaging contributors to the activities at this distracting time of year! See
you again soon in the Library J
