Year 7 Library Activity - Scott's!

Short’s, we will miss you from our Monday afternoons! There was drama, there was comedy, there was dancing, there was…the Library of Congress song.

The intrigue in everything books was evident from the outset with Scott’s lively debates about book covers good and bad and all the things we love about fiction characters…heroes and villains. That Scott’s trademark competitive spirit was also prevailing in week two when the class got to run around the Library and practice their non-fiction research skills. The antithesis of standard Library practice: messy, loud and energetic, you almost wouldn’t know it was educational. Armed with all this knowledge, Year 7 Scott’s went away with various topics and utilised their skills in preparation for their presentations. We had to give the class a special mention as they were the first entire group ever to get their work in before the deadline! Well done 7SC, this always leaves more time for the fun stuff so we all benefited.

And we did have fun! There were so many imaginative ideas, in fact, that we gave away the most prizes we had ever given. In first place, it had to be Evie and Anouk, who made up their own song (with dance moves) about the Library of Congress. They packed in loads of interesting facts, had great presentation slides, shared and prepared all the work and the delivery at the same time as wearing costumes and cracking jokes. Very memorable show, so memorable I had the song in my head all afternoon, thanks! Great work team.

In Second place were Henry and Kai who told us all about the Children’s Laureate: the history, how they are chosen and who they were and what they wrote. A very clear and concise slideshow, structure and delivery showing everyone how it’s done. Well done both.

And… in joint third place was Scarlet and Millie who took us down an unfamiliar root for the topic of ‘Favourite Author and Book’ with some very interesting facts on the history of book printing. Great for us history geeks! Alongside them in third place were Millie, Sam and Daisy who presented on ‘Villains in Literature’ discussing everything from gender to the ‘villain within us’, very original analysis and pleasingly well prepared script that was confidently shared and presented. Excellent job all of you!

The last week saw a bonkers few rounds of quizzing for which all four competing teams got extremely high scores! These guys know their stuff: general knowledge, books, films, songs, they were on it! The chorus line that emerged from the music round was so good that it would be a strong entry for House Singing. It was a dead heat in the end between team ‘Spaghetti Unicorns’ and team ‘Deformed Onions’ (if we could give bonus points for team names this would have been the time) who were so impressive we gave them all prizes.

Phew! Thank you Scott’s, we hope you enjoyed it as much as we did and we shall see you in the Library again soon!
