And....last, but not least:
We have come to the end of another year and another set of
Year 7 Library Activities!
Well done to Scott’s House who finished off the Summer term last
week with some high scoring rounds in the final quiz! Here is team 'Ululating Llamas' walking away with the prize with an impressive 37 out of
a possible 40 points!:
Short’s showed us how to find the perfect reading book, how
to research a non-fiction topic and how to navigate their way around the
Library successfully.
There were some great contributions from the class during
our discussions. Short’s expressed their thoughts on genre branding, style and
marketing of books as we looked closely at different cover design choices by
publishers.
There was lots of chat about who the best heroes and villains were
and how they can draw us into a good story and most effectively, how a good
trilogy can invigorate our love of getting stuck into reading and reinvigorate
it if it has lost its lustre!
There was a rush for the Australia Trilogy by J. P. Smythe after
Mrs Osafo’s recommendation and all three books have been out on loan ever
since. Let the Librarians get a look in, guys!
Competition was high when the non-fiction, Dewey treasure
hunt got underway and the students, although a little tricksy with the rules at times, proved
they knew how to find the right book to solve a problem. And the Dewey Jeopardy
quiz saw some keen strategy called into play to get the top spot and a prize to show it.
There was a BGS Library first in the class presentations week
and Short’s was represented with true confidence and style: Ben and Adiyat won
first prize with top marks from all
three Librarian judges! Their discussion explored the power
that book covers and illustrations have to tell a story beautifully, comparing and
contrasting, critically analysing and clearly and articulately delivering their
findings: we couldn’t fault them. Excellent work both!
Josh and Sam G gave a well-shared and prepared presentation
on how we choose what to read next, giving us plenty of tips which earned them
second place and Lucy and Alissa conducted some well-managed and constructive
discussions with the class on book covers and illustrations for which they got
third choice of the brand new book prizes.
Here's to another year, 7 Short’s, thanks for all your contributions
and sporting efforts, we look forward to seeing you back in the Library in Year
8!
Have a great Summer all!!
