Thank you to Year 7 Short's for joining us before Easter for 6 weeks of all things Library!
The class kicked off by guessing the greatest literary heroes and villains of modern children's literature and how we choose what to read based on covers, illustrations, genre, blurbs, reviews, recommendations and even the use of type face in book cover design!
With this, they started work on creating some of their own imaginative book cover designs:
Once they had fiction down, it was time to test the class on non-fiction with the Dewey Jeopardy Quiz which saw some very impressive recall from the teams on various Dewey Decimal System related trivia. It was a nail-biting game with two teams neck and neck towards the end but a tie breaker saw the winning team fetching themselves a prize and all walked away knowing how to navigate around the most widely used Library Classification System in the world.
Presentations were of a high standard with clear, confident delivery across the board. The class really took ownership of their subjects which was great to see and the best three pairs won a book prize.
So, well done to Chloe and Emily for some original ideas around the subject, 'How we choose what to read next'. They were well prepared and even taught the Librarians a thing or two about the 'Goldilocks' way of choosing a book that is "Just right"!
Jay and Jack did a lovely gentle presentation on Penguin Publishing that they shared out between them to give a smooth delivery with lots of detail.
And last but not least, Aryan and Nick, also presenting on 'How to chose what to read next' , showed a passion for their subject and with a great diagram of a genre-wheel to point people in the right direction, reminded the class that, if in doubt: ask a good 'old' Librarian!
We hope you enjoyed your Library Activity as much as we did, see back here soon! 😃
