Year 7 Short's Library Activity!

Our final Year 7 activity of 2016-2017 has come to an end which we celebrated with the Library quiz for Short's House on Monday this week: there was team-singing and seat-dancing to be admired!

Team 'Zoggle' won this time with 47 out of a possible 57 points winning a box of Maltesers each. Very well done to the other other teams who closely followed: team 'Roller Coaster' with 43 and 1/2 and team 'High Noon' with 40 and 1/2!

Year 7 Short's were a hard-working and enthusiastic bunch who produced some lovely work in their presentations that showed they paid attention and took great interest whilst learning about all things Library in weeks one and two. The top three received a book of their choice from a line-up of stories recommended by the librarians, especially aimed at Year 7 students. If you want some good reading for the summer, these include:

The Lies We Tell Ourselves by Robin Talley

Wonder by R.J. Palacio

The Boy in the Tower by Polly Ho-Yen

My Name is Leon by Kit De Waal

Unwind by Neal Shusterman

Concentr8 by William Sutcliffe

We Are All Made of Molecules by Susin Nielsen

One by Sarah Crossan

Thirteen by Tom Hoyle

In third place with a lovely discussion on 'How to Choose What to Read Next' was Luke and Harry who even educated the librarians about the 'reading matters' website, which we fully intend to use from now on, thanks guys!

In second place was Jay and Tom who demonstrated they had put in a lot of time and effort to deliver a strong presentation on 'Penguin Publishing', sharing the work and communicating well. I didn't know Allen Lane thought up Penguin at a train station!

And, last but not least, in first place was Connor S and Michael who produced a clear, detailed and informative presentation on their 'Favourite Author and Book'. They shared the duties equally and showed enthusiasm and eloquence in telling us why they chose the authors and books and what it meant to them. Besides that, they produced a fun Kerboodle quiz for the class to participate in based on Harry Potter! Well done, we had not seen that application used before and were very impressed.

So, a great year of Library Activities was had by all, with much laughter and plenty of new and innovative presentation ideas to inspire. Thank you to Short's and all the Year 7 Houses for participating, have a great Summer and see you in the Library next year!!
