Goodman’s House Library Activity

Our final Library Activity was with Goodman’s House and what a fun six weeks it has been! In week one, we discussed fiction and discovered that Goodman’s House has a lot of horror fans who provided some brilliant book recommendations. There was also a very lively debate about books vs films.

Week two was all about book covers and there were lots of interesting points made about the importance of colour, fonts, and illustrations. The conclusion was that whilst we are not meant to judge a book by its cover we all do!

Non-fiction was the topic for week three. Goodman’s were great at the Dewey Quiz and we had some good book choices in the Treasure Hunt, although there were a couple of questionable ones! We also talked about our trip to the British Library and there were a lot of enthusiastic questions.

During presentations prep in week four, everyone worked really well resulting in some excellent presentations in week five. We were impressed by everyone’s efforts and particularly loved the use of graphs which are obviously popular with Goodman’s House folk! After a lot of deliberating, we awarded Lottie and Hattie third place for their presentation on Penguin Publishing. They had a lot of interesting information and made good use of their notes and handouts.

Dan and Dan came second for their presentation - Books vs eBooks. It was very detailed and well thought out with lots of charts and pictures. They also had a good introductory slide and worked well as a team.

First place went to Arthur and Stefan for their presentation on Book Covers and Illustrations. Their research was thorough and detailed, their examples of good and bad covers were excellent, and well explained, and they were very confident in their delivery.

We also awarded commendations to Tom and Ollie for their presentation about their favourite books. They worked very well together and had done some good research on the authors that they chose.

Week six was quiz week. After a fun trawl through the history of BGS involving sweets (don’t ask!), the highly competitive quiz commenced.  Three rounds and some dubious dance moves later, our winners were Wasabi Soap with a one point lead!

Thank you Goodman’s House for a fantastic finale to the school year! We’ve had a brilliant time with all our Year 7s and we hope you all have a lovely summer.
