Year 7 Library Activity with Scott's

Our three presentation winners with their well-deserved prizes
Scott's House Year 7s were the second group to undertake the Library Activity. We soon discovered that they have their fair share of avid readers!

The first week was all about fiction - favourite books, favourite authors and not-so favourite books! We heard a lot about new and different authors that we hadn't come across before. Librarians love that!  Mrs Osafo revealed her favourite author again (spoiler: rhymes with Even Bing) and Mr Short spoke about the book he was currently reading - The Cuckoo's Calling by Robert Galbraith (aka J.K. Rowling) which he said read like a film script.

In week two, Miss Kleiman and Mrs Godden led the session. Miss Kleiman told the students about the wonders of non-fiction and the Dewey Decimal System, sending them out into the Library on a quiz/hunt to test their newly found skills.  Mrs Godden then organised a treasure hunt in which each group had to find a website and a book for a given scenario. We were very impressed with their book choices and their knowledge of how to evaluate websites.

After a break for half-term, the third week of the activity saw the group working on their presentations, which they then delivered the following week. Their confident delivery style and the quality of their research was really good to see. The students were so full of facts that we didn't have time to hear all the presentations in week 4 and had to continue the following week.

In week 5, the final four presentations were delivered and those judged to be the best three received prizes. In first place was Nicola who produced an extremely imaginative piece on How to Choose a Book using characters from The Simpsons. Second place went to Sam for a very well-constructed and confidently delivered presentation on Books vs Films. Third place went to a very deserving Angus who almost convinced us that e-books were better than printed books in his Books vs E-Books presentation. Last but certainly not least, Ollie was awarded a commendation for the amount of effort he put into his work on Books vs Films.

We finished off with a lively quiz covering everything we had discussed over the past four weeks. This involved some very fun (and often very loud) rounds. It was a close call, but in the end no tie-breaker was needed as Team Leslie emerged victorious.

Thank you Scott's for such an enjoyable five weeks and we hope to see you in the library again soon!

Next up - Catchpole's!
