World Book Day - How it all went down!

After a year without celebrations World Book Day was back with a bang for 2022. It was so uplifting to see so many smiling faces and crazy costumes in the Library, and that was just the staff!

We saw it all yesterday, representing every year group in the school, costumes of all manner of story characters from Supertato to a Trojan Horse. There were Quidditch teams, leprechauns, gingerbread men and more Fantastic Mr Foxes, Alice’s in Wonderlands and Gangster Grannies than you could count.

At break and lunch time the Library was taken over with jolly participants getting their photos taken for the costume competition, answering fairy tale themed quizzes and searching for a treasure hunt: the winners of all competitions will be announced next week and there will be prizes!

The Library team were promoting fairy tales, folk tales, myths and legends for this year’s event and have been very busy (with the invaluable help of the Pupil Librarians of course) crafting and decorating the Library to invoke the legendary tales of ancient, old and new.

If you have not been to the Library yet, we still have a display of some of our older archived books that have an inspiring mix of collections of short tales from around the world and a world map display that shows even older cultures of ancient storytelling that have been part of human existence since the beginning of time.

In assembly the Librarians recommended a long and eclectic list of modern books that have been influenced by fairy tales, folktales, myths and legends and they are all out for you to peruse if you would prefer something up to date.

There is something for everyone.

Thank you to all those who participated, watch this space for photo displays of your excellent efforts coming soon in the Library.
