Halloween - 31st October 2016….
This term, we resurrected our extensive collection of gothic fiction from the dusty vaults with a display of all that creeps, moans and bumps in the night.

Halloween has varying meanings across cultures and religions but is broadly a time to remember the dead and what better way than reminding ourselves of these classic ghoulish stories....







Whether it is vampires, ghosts, headless nuns or talking ravens that you are interested in, Gothic fiction has elements of the dark and macabre in spades.

Guy Fawkes Remembrance – November 5th 2016….
When Guy Fawkes was arrested for conspiring in a plot to murder King James I, attempting to use gunpowder from beneath the House of Lords on November 5th 1605, could he have foreseen the jovial fireworks displays and sparklers that we hold in remembrance of his failure today? Doubtful. Yet, his attempts at rebellion and revolution have been felt through the ages and oft repeated in various political coups throughout Britain.
