world of her previous book ‘The Hazel wood’, this selection of fairy tales is
unlike any other I have read. There is no good versus evil. There are no fairy
princesses finding love. Nobody ever lives happily ever after! These are very
dark Gothic horror fairy tales. Someone always dies and usually in a horrible
manner. Evil nearly always wins - usually because of the greed of humans and
their choices in life. Despite all of this, I really enjoyed this collection of
short stories - just don’t read it before bedtime or you will have nightmares!
